The Independence Hotel Opening Soon!

“Experience what brought pioneers to the valley over 200 years ago and the richness that has survived and thrived all that time.  The Independence Hotel will provide the place for you to start your exploration.  Whether you are in town for the wine, beer, cycling, river adventure, education, or events, the Independence provides the perfect place to relaxation and gathering.”

A boutique hotel is coming to Independence this year, the latest development in a broader effort to revitalize the city’s historic downtown.

The Hotel at Independence Landing broke ground at 15 C St. near the Willamette River and Riverview Park on Monday, March 12 and opens in July 2019.

Gresham-based Tokola Properties, which is building the hotel, also will construct more than 120 apartments in the years following the hotel opening as part of a three-phase development, said Dwight Unti, the company’s president. Plans also call for a series of townhouses.

Developers have geared the Independence Hotel toward wine tourism enthusiasts, business guests, visitors to Western Oregon University and cyclists riding the Willamette Valley.

Bicyclists will be able to take advantage of a 24-space bicycle repair room with tools. The hotel will include an outdoor bike-washing area, Unti said, and rooms will have spaces to park bicycles.

Boutique hotels tend to be smaller than other mainstream hotels. The Independence hotel, featuring “warm and contemporary” architecture that compliments the historic downtown area, will have 75 rooms, Unti said.

Polk County is excited to welcome this new economic addition to our community!

4 Steps To Finding A Business Idea

This is probably the most daunting area for people. In fact, the most common reason why people haven’t started a business on the side is because they “just don’t have a good business idea.” This is just a mental barrier though — one that you can easily get past if you look at one area: your strengths. Here are four questions you can ask yourself to find a solid business idea:

What skills do you have? Now, what do you know and know well? These are the skills and knowledge that you have acquired. Think of it another way: We pay for expert knowledge all the time (e.g., language classes, college courses, instrument lessons). Guess what? You can be that teacher too.

What do your friends say you’re great at? I love this question. Not only can it be a nice little ego boost — but it can also be incredibly revealing. Message your family and friends on Facebook or ask them IRL: What am I great at? The answers they give you can be turned into side business ideas.

What do you do on a Saturday morning? What do you do on a Saturday morning before everyone else is awake? This can be incredibly revealing to what you’re passionate about and what you like to spend your time on.

What do you already pay for? You don’t even have to play to your strengths and talents. Instead, you can look to things you already pay for. After all, we pay people to do a lot of different things. There’s no reason you can’t turn one of those things into your own online business.

5 Quick Tips to Optimize Your Chamber Profile!

Every member receives a free profile on dallasoregon.org website as part of your membership. Organizations with enhanced profiles are more likely to get viewed by potential customers, a huge benefit considering 81% of shoppers do online research before buying. You could be missing out on potential customers by not optimizing your profile. Why not take advantage of this powerful FREE benefit with these 5 enhancements?

  1. Keywords:Help customers find you! This piece is critical for pointing customers to your profile because, unless your product or service is in your business name, Chamber Master will not make the connection. List keywords that describe your business by choosing words or phrases that match your marketing strategy. What is your area of expertise? What products or services sets you apart from your competitors? Your keywords should be specific and help direct potential customers to your services.
  2. Results Summary Description:Think of this as your pitch statement or elevator speech. It is the first glimpse a customer will see of your business with a query in the business directory. Your summary will be listed beneath your business name in the public directory with other companies in your category so make a statement and stand out! (Hint: don’t get too wild, you only have 200 characters. Be succinct)
  3. Description:Expand upon your results summary description by highlighting the benefits of YOUR company. You have 1600 characters to convey your organization’s values, mission and what the heck you do! Earlier in this blog I mentioned customers are big on doing research before buying goods or services so use this opportunity to enlighten them. The description should act as your silent sales person.
  4. Highlights:This bulleted section allows customers to click through to your webpage for more information and help boost traffic to your site. Highlights can include credentials, testimonials, awards or niche products and services.
  5. Media:Add visual interest to your page by uploading photos and videos of your products, services and staff to help tell your story. Colored visuals increase a reader’s willingness to read content by 80% and it lends credibility to the work you do.

Optimizing your Dallas Chamber profile with Chamber Master is fast, easy and offers so many benefits. The more robust your profile, the more the views you will get will equate to more business for you.
